Georgia sets new record for number of new coronavirus cases in a 24-hour period

ATLANTA — Georgia recorded the highest single-day number of new coronavirus cases Saturday, with 4,689 positive results.

The previous record was set on July 10 with 4,484 new cases.

Gwinnett County shot up 337 cases in just 24 hours Saturday.

3,168 people in Georgia have died from the virus. 36 of those deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

The average age of patient deaths is 73.5 years.

85% of critical care beds are in use across the state.
