ATLANTA — While former President Donald Trump faces a variety of legal issues in Georgia and further abroad, a federal case led by Special Counsel Jack Smith added a high-level Georgia official to its roster of those contacted.
This time, Governor Brian Kemp.
The special counsel’s probes into federal election interference and retention of classified records led to questions of Kemp.
A spokesman for the governor confirmed that he’d been contacted in the probe but would not provide further detail.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was called to testify for the special counsel’s investigations at the end of June.
Raffensperger also confirmed to Channel 2′s Richard Elliot that his office had shared video of election counting at State Farm Arena with the Dept. of Justice in mid-July.
“Our investigators looked at it. GBI looked at it. FBI looked at it,” Raffensperger told Elliot. “They looked at it and said nothing happened.”
Afterward, Smith reportedly told the former president he was a target of the investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
The former president himself revealed those details via his social media platforms.
Former Pres. Trump has, at all times, maintained his innocence in each case filed against him, including recent indictments in Florida and New York.
Smith has served as special counsel since November, after being appointed to the role by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.
