ATLANTA, Ga. — Announcer and former MLB star Joey Votto is “apologizing” to Braves fans for wrongly predicting they would not score another run during Thursday night’s Wild Card win against the Philadelphia Phillies, only for the Braves to hit a home run moments later.

Votto made the bold prediction in the bottom of the fourth inning when he said “I do not see the Braves scoring any more runs the rest of the way.”

Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies made Votto eat those words just moments later when he hit a 2 run homer.

CJ Nitkowski, former Braves pitcher and current team commentator, gave Votto a piece of advice.

“Joey, I’ve had a lot of fun working with you over the last three days, man, but do not check your mentions,” he said.

Votto posted an apology on X Friday, writing “Braves fans, I want to sincerely apologize for guessing so incorrectly, dismissing your offense. I hear you. Good luck in your next series in Los Angeles.” But he continued with “Dodgers in 5,” immediately predicting a Braves loss in their next series.

The “apology” was short lived with Votto writing a short time later that he “didn’t really mean the apology.”

Votto did admit during an interview with MLB that he “got a lot of feedback that I was a bit of a bum yesterday.” The latest prediction comes after Votto asked during the very first inning of the very first game in the series “Did the Phillies just win the series?” after the Phillies scored a single run.

Votto played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball and was a star for the Cincinnati Reds. He ended his career with a total of 2 playoff wins in those 17 seasons, with Votto batting .000 during the team’s 2013 playoff run, down from batting .100 during a much deeper 3 game playoff run in 2010, according to Channel 2 Sports Director Zach Klein.

The Braves went on to win the game, 6-2, and advance to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.
