Former President Obama returns to Georgia to rally for Democrats

ATLANTA — Former President Barack Obama re-emerged in a familiar spot on Friday night — back in Atlanta, campaigning for Democrats.

“It’s good to be back in Georgia!,” exclaimed Obama. “This election requires every one of us to do our part. It is that important.”

Just two years after campaigning in Atlanta in 2020, Obama returned. This time he rallied support for Stacey Abrams and Sen. Raphael Warnock at an event at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park.

Obama wasted no time going after Warnock’s opponent, Herschel Walker.

“Herschel Walker was a heck of a football player,” said Obama. “But here’s the question, does that make him the best person to represent you in the U.S. Senate? It seems to me he’s a celebrity who wants to be a politician, and we know how that goes.”

Both Abrams and Warnock joined Obama on stage in front of a large crowd, with supporters hoping Obama can inspire more support for the candidates, with polls showing both Abrams and Warnock locked in tough fights with Republicans Brian Kemp and Walker in their respective races.

Earlier Friday, Walker also hit the campaign trail.

“I’ll tell you I’m going to win this election and here’s the reason why,” said Walker. “I don’t look like a politician, do I? I don’t sound like a politician, do I? Because I’m not a politician. I’m a warrior for God and he prepared me for this moment right now.”

Walker believes he has momentum in the race after his debate with Warnock earlier this month, again on Friday calling Warnock a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

“Quit kissing up to those other people. Senator, you need to get back to Georgia and do what’s right for the Georgia people,” said Walker.

Obama also addressed the attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul, saying he’s praying for his friend.
