ATLANTA — The owner of a Decatur beauty school is offering to help hundreds of students from Buckhead’s Health and Style Institute, which abruptly closed Tuesday.

This is all while students planned to protest in front of the school on Piedmont Road Friday but canceled after they said the owner sent threatening emails.

“I was pretty much on my last part of school,” student Jamilah Pritchard said.

She and hundreds of other students were in disbelief when they were locked out of the school Tuesday but showed up Friday to get their belongings.

They said the only reason why staff sent an email telling them to get their belongings between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Friday was because they planned to protest.

“Staff sent an email stating that hey if y’all do this protest, you won’t be able to come get your stuff,” student Anesah Shabazz said.

Health and Style Institute staff sent an email Tuesday saying they had to close because they can no longer pay federal student aid.

Dr. Melanie Beaver said dealing with financial aid for students can be challenging.

“It created small challenges for us, but we were still able to get our students financial aid processed and provide them with a quality education. We’re offering free state board preps for students who are finished or almost finished and don’t know if they’re comfortable enough to go to the state board. We’re here to support them,” Beaver told Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes.

She’s having an information session on Wednesday evening at Beaver Academy in Decatur to help any students in limbo.
