Atlanta woman dies in ziplining accident in Puerto Rico

Atlanta woman killed ziplining accident Tamirah Yasmeen Dix died during a vacation in Puerto Rico. She was 40 years old.

ATLANTA — A 40-year-old Atlanta woman died over the weekend after sustaining a head injury while ziplining in Puerto Rico.

Preliminary reports indicate the death of Tamirah Yasmeen Dix was caused by an accidental hit to the head.

The family of Dix is now working to return her body home.

Rashida Dix, the victim’s sister, said the family is seeking help from the community to cover the costs of transportation and funeral arrangements.

A GoFundMe has been started to help with funeral and other related costs.

The incident occurred in Orocovis, a municipality located in the central mountain range of Puerto Rico. The investigation remains active, but preliminary findings point to an accidental collision during the zipline activity as the cause of the fatal injury.

Dix had been visiting the island as a tourist.

“It is with heavy hearts that I share the passing of my beloved baby sister Tamirah. This loss has been devastating and we are now faced with the challenge of bringing her home and and arranging a proper farewell,” Dix said.

According to the family, the expenses for transportation and memorial services have exceeded their current resources.

“The costs of transportation to the state and funeral services are more than we can manage alone, so we are humbly asking for help from our community,” Dix said. “If you’re able to contribute, we would be deeply grateful. We are asking for any support you may be able to give during this time.”

Dix also emphasized that any level of assistance, including sharing information about the fundraiser, is helpful to the family.

“No amount is too small and even sharing this message would mean so much to us,” Dix said. “Please donate or share our GoFundMe. Thank you for standing with our family during this painful time.”
