Road closures outside Fulton County Courthouse ahead of possible Trump indictment

ATLANTA — Authorities have shut down the street outside the Fulton County Courthouse ahead of special court proceedings this month.

Pryor Street between Mitchell and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at the Fulton County Courthouse is off-limits to vehicles starting Aug. 7 until Aug. 18.

Officials tell Channel 2 Action News this a part of a security plan if there’s an indictment in the 2020 election interference case against former president Donald Trump.

Channel 2′s Darryn Moore was in downtown Atlanta Monday morning where Fulton County deputies have had the street blocked since 5:00 a.m.

“So to that extent, it is a part of a proactive plan to make sure, again, what we’ve learned from Miami is that we need to have a secure perimeter that’s just the beginning of the program,” Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat said.

The sheriff sent his deputies to New York and Miami to watch how law enforcement handled those indictments and arraignments against the former president.

“If an indictment came today, we would be ready,” Labat said.

In addition to the street closure, there’s no public parking allowed around the perimeter of the courthouse.

In late July, deputies also set up orange barricades near the main entrance of the building.

This does play out inside the existing timeline which the district attorney said any potential indictments could come down between Monday and the middle of August.
