ATLANTA — The Atlanta Botanical Garden is moving forward with an expansion that will add nearly eight acres along Piedmont Avenue and the Atlanta Beltline’s northeast corridor.
The project will increase the garden’s footprint by 25%.

The expansion connects the current 30-acre garden directly to the 22-mile Beltline loop, making the garden the first major arts and cultural institution with direct access from the trail.
The project aligns with expansion plans by the Piedmont Park Conservancy to create a continuous greenway connecting the garden, Piedmont Park and the Beltline.
The project is funded through a capital campaign titled “Atlanta’s Garden Gateway: A Bold Entrance to our Sustainable Future.”
Fundraising for the $160 million campaign has already surpassed $130 million.
Outside the garden gates, plans call for the Beltline Plaza, a public programming space intended for free community activities.

A new visitor center facing the Beltline will feature an indoor and outdoor cafe, a gift shop, bicycle parking and guest amenities.
Inside the expanded grounds, features will be arranged along a central linear sightline called the Grand Axis.

Design elements include Water Terraces near the Arrival Court, a Walled Garden and a Fountain Garden situated at the property’s highest point.
Project leaders expect to break ground on the expansion in 2026. Construction is targeted for completion in 2028.
