Airbnb announces global ban on parties after crackdown on Atlanta party houses

ATLANTA — Airbnb has announced a global ban on all parties and events at Airbnb listings after a crackdown on over 50 party houses in Atlanta last week.

The company announced that starting Friday, the party ban will apply to all future bookings. Occupancy at Airbnb listings will also be limited to 16 people. The company said the ban would be indefinite.

Last week, Airbnb announced they would suspend or remove over 50 listings in Atlanta that were known to host large parties and were violating the company’s policies. The move came after months of complaints from neighbors about huge, out-of-control crowds and at least two shootings.

In July, two gunmen ambushed a party at an Airbnb listing in Atlanta, shooting four people and leaving two teenagers dead.

In January, a woman was shot at a house party at an Airbnb in Old Fourth Ward after gunmen opened fired.

The company said that people who violate Airbnb’s party rules may be legally pursued.

The company also announced that they are looking into a potential exception process for specialty and traditional hospitality venues like boutique hotels.
