Atlanta woman dies after zipline accident in Puerto Rico; mother struggling to bring her body home

MARIETTA, Ga. — A Marietta woman died on vacation in Puerto Rico - after her fiancé says she hit her head while ziplining.

Now, her family is trying to get her back to Georgia.

Tamirah Dix’s mother described how heartbroken and confused she is, and how desperate she is to get her daughter’s body back home.

“I never thought I’d be burying my child,” Vanessa Dix told Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes on Channel 2 Action News at 4:00 p.m.

Her 40-year-old daughter left Marietta last week to enjoy a friend’s birthday in Puerto Rico.

Late Saturday night, she got a terrible phone call she still can’t quite process. She was told Tamirah hit her head while ziplining and died a short time later.

“They say she got hit in the face – I don’t know – and from then on they went to get something to eat and she felt nauseated so she threw up and I understand it from then on it went down from there. She went into a seizure,” Vanessa Dix said.

Friends told the mother that Tamirah’s fiancé did CPR to try and save her.

Tamirah was then taken to a hospital by ambulance but didn’t make it. The mom says investigators in Puerto Rico are done looking into what happened. They are doing an autopsy.

A GoFundMe has been started to help with funeral and other related costs.
