The Atlanta Falcons have announced their starting quarterback for their home opener in Week 2.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Cooper Rush will be under center against the Carolina Panthers. Jack Strand will backup Rush. Michael Penix Jr. has been ruled out and Tua Tagovailoa is listed as doubtful, according to the Falcons’ injury report.

Rush started in the 20-13 loss to the Steelers. He completed 12 of 22 passes and threw for one touchdown. He also had two interceptions, one of which was a pick six for Pittsburgh.
“You know, you watch the tape and it’s never as good or never as bad as you think. It’s kind of always how it goes. It’s an old saying. Definitely want a few plays back. Just wasn’t mentally sharp enough really,” Rush said at practice earlier this week.
