And they now have a name: The Athens Crush. The logo is a giant “A” crushed by set of dinosaur claws.

“Powerful, aggressive, and uniquely connected to Athens, Crush represents a hard-hitting football team while also paying tribute to R.E.M.’s iconic song Orange Crush. It’s a modern sports brand with local roots and national appeal,” the franchise said about the name.

The other finalists were Athens Bullfrogs, Athens Hedgehawgs and Athens Panic.

The team is set to debut in 2027 and will play its home games at the Akins Ford Arena at the Classic Center.

The IFL formed back in 2008. The league currently consists of 14 teams split among an Eastern and Western Conference. The Athens team is expected to be in the Eastern Conference while a new team in San Jose, Calif. will be in the Western.
