25-year-old sentenced for smuggling heroin

ATLANTA — A Guatemalan man was given a four-year sentence Tuesday for smuggling heroin into Atlanta.

Kenneth Lewis Martin, 25, was headed to Rhode Island when customs agents inspected his luggage during a stop in Atlanta last year. Authorities said agents found 2.5 kilograms of heroin hidden within artwork in his luggage.

In November, Martin pleaded guilty to importing and possession with intent to distribute heroin. A judge has now sentenced him to four years  --  two months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
