COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Neighbors say they had no idea a 2-year-old boy was suffering behind closed doors before he died at a Cobb County apartment complex last week.

Lolo Anilus is charged with homicide, cruelty to children and making false statements to police in connection with his son’s death.
According to an arrest warrant, investigators say Anilus left the boy unattended for six hours while the child was visibly ill and in distress.
The warrant says the boy was experiencing mouth pain, was unable to eat and could not change his own diaper.
Investigators say Anilus initially told officers he had been asleep with the child. Police later determined that statement was false after obtaining security camera video and a statement from Anilus’ daughter.
Police say the child ultimately died from neglect.

The incident happened at the Legacy at West Cobb apartments last week.
Neighbors and visitors who spoke with Channel 2 Action News said they were unaware of what was happening inside the apartment.
One neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said she was “disgusted” and that the child did not deserve what happened.
Another neighbor, Kenny, who did not want his last name used on television, questioned how a father could not know his child was unsafe.
“I feel that he should be charged,” Kenny said. “How could a father not see, not know the child is safe and not take care of him?”
Channel 2 Action News went to Anilus’ apartment and knocked on the door, but no one answered.
A woman visiting a friend who lives next door said she did not hear anything outside or any commotion.
“Nobody deserves that especially by the hands of the person that’s supposed to be protecting you,” she said.
