2 people and a dog rescued from sinking boat near Georgia island

SAVANNAH, Ga. — On Monday, two people and a dog were rescued from their sinking boar right off a Georgia island.

U.S. Coast Guard Officials in Savannah saw a 28-foot catamaran boat sinking near the entrance of St. Simons Sound,

A Coast Guard helicopter crew arrived on the scene and lifted the two people and a dog named Reggie to safety.

Officials said they were able to find the people thanks to an alert.

“We were able to locate the survivors exact position because of an alert from their personal locator beacon,”Petty Officer 2nd Class Tyler Murray, who was the flight mechanic on the case said . “A PLB transmits personalized distress signals and helps us find you during a search and rescue missions. If you own a boat, the Coast Guard highly recommends this safety equipment. It can save your life as we saw firsthand.”

The survivors, including the dog named Reggie, were taken to Hunter Army Airfield where emergency services were waiting to assist.
