ATLANTA — Two people are in custody after police said a carjacking chase ended in a crash on Interstate 75.
Investigators told Channel 2’s Rikki Klaus Thursday morning they had confiscated two guns the men used to intimidate their victims in the parking lot of an apartment complex. They said one of the guns was stolen.
Klaus was there as paramedics examined one of the suspects in police custody on I-75 southbound near Interstate 285.
According to police, just after midnight, the suspects pointed guns at two women sitting in a car at the Avana Westside Apartments on Huff Road in Atlanta.
Investigators say the men demanded money then took a 2006 Scion and drove away with the women's purses.
Police said they located the car by tracking the victims' electronic devices, and then chased the suspects down the interstate.
“It’s a tremendous risk. There are a lot of factors that go into whether or not we can pursue a vehicle. All the factors were right for a pursuit, and it ended in our favor," Capt. Griffin said.
Investigators said the driver of the Scion lost control and smacked the car into a guard rail.
Officers said the men ran from police, but did not get far.
Investigators are working to find out their names.
