ATKINSON COUNTY, Ga. — A south Georgia boy is recovering after being mauled by three dogs over the weekend.

The Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office told WALB that the dogs got out of their yard and ran over to where the 11-year-old and his friend were playing.

They say the main dog involved was a pit bull, but the breed of the other two have not been released.

Banner O’Berry’s mother says he and his middle school football teammate were riding four-wheelers when they broke down in a field and the dogs attacked.

The boys climbed onto the four-wheeler, but one of them pulled O’Berry down and kept attacking.

He fought the dogs off with a pair of pliers while his friend called for help and threw things at the dogs.
