1 arrested, 50 dogs rescued in Georgia animal cruelty investigation

LAMAR COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities arrested one person and removed 50 dogs from a property in Lamar County on Tuesday as part of an animal cruelty investigation.

Lamar County Animal Services and the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office carried out a search warrant at a location on Martin Dairy Road following an ongoing inquiry into alleged animal mistreatment.

The suspect faces charges related to cruelty to animals.

Assisting in the operation were the Atlanta Humane Society Operation Humane team, the Georgia Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement Division and Barnesville Police Department Animal Control.

The seized dogs underwent medical evaluations and are receiving care through Lamar County Animal Services and partner animal welfare groups.

Several of the dogs have been transferred to partner organizations for continued care and will be placed for adoption once intake and evaluations are complete.

Because of the operational demands of the investigation, the Lamar County Animal Services shelter was closed to the public through Thursday.
