Jim “Jimbo” Houston, a beloved Social Studies teacher at Worth County High School, died following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 300, according to authorities.
Georgia State Patrol says the crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. on April 1. Troopers say a Toyota SUV hit a Cheverelot pickup truck from behind while both vehicles were traveling northbound in the right lane.
The impact forced the pickup truck off the roadway and into a tree line, where it crashed into a tree.
The driver of the pickup truck, later identified as Houston, was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries, GSP says.

The driver of the SUV was not seriously hurt and stopped on the shoulder of the highway, according to troopers.
GSP says that the driver is facing DUI charges, with more charges pending. The driver’s identity has not yet been released.
Houston spent nearly 30 years at Worth County High School, where district leaders say he built lasting relationships with students and colleagues.
In a statement, the WCSD said Houston was ‘more than an educator’ and described him as a steady presence on campus.
The district is asking the community to keep Houston’s family, friends and the school community in their thoughts and prayers.
