Man accused of robbing Georgia Dollar General stores

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A man is facing multiple charges after investigators linked him to two Dollar General robberies and a purse theft in Brunswick, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The GBI announced that Willie Gray, 46, of Memphis, Tenn., has been charged with two counts of robbery, aggravated battery, exploitation of an elderly adult, misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement and providing a false name.

The investigation began Sept. 14 when the Brunswick Police Department asked the GBI to investigate a robbery at the Dollar General at 2915 Norwich Street.

During that incident, a man stole cash from the register and assaulted an elderly man, according to investigators.

Five days later, on Sept. 19, another Dollar General at 2701 J Street was robbed similarly. Cash was taken from the register, but no one was injured.

On Sept. 24, a man matching the description of the Dollar General robbery suspect stole a purse from someone outside Roses’ at 1919 Glynn Avenue. No one was injured, and the purse was later recovered.

Following the purse theft, bystanders directed Brunswick police officers to a vacant commercial property, where the man was found hiding on the roof.

The man, later identified as Gray, was taken into custody with assistance from the Glynn County Sheriff’s Office and the Glynn County Police Department.

Gray was booked into the Glynn County Jail on Sept. 24.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Once it is complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
