RABUN COUNTY, Ga. — A north Georgia man is behind bars following his arrest in what authorities describe as an ongoing child abuse investigation.

Rabun County deputies arrested Skyler Nathaniel Akins, 28, on March 25 after investigating multiple serious allegations.
Akins is facing several felony charges: sexual battery, rape, three counts of child molestation, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, aggravated assault, and cruelty to animals.

Investigators say the alleged incidents occurred over multiple dates spanning 2025 into 2026.
“This is a case of child abuse. Due to the sensitive nature of this investigation and to protect those involved, we will not be releasing any further information at this time,” said Sheriff Mark Gerrells. “My office remains committed to protecting the children of Rabun County and holding those who harm them accountable.”
Akins is currently being held in the county jail.
