MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A 3-year-old child died early Saturday after being shot inside a Georgia home, according to police.

Milledgeville officers were called around 12:53 a.m. to the 1100 block of Dunlap Road after receiving a report of a child with a gunshot wound.
Officers and a Baldwin County deputy found the injured child at the home. Because of the severity of the injuries, officers rushed the child to the hospital in a patrol vehicle in an effort to get the child medical care as quickly as possible.
The child later died from the injuries.
According to police, three children, ages 3, 5 and 7, were inside the home at the time and gained access to a gun.

The children’s father was also inside the home. He was taken to the police department for questioning. No charges have been announced.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and recovered the gun believed to have been involved in the shooting.
The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services was notified and responded to the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police said more information, including any charges, will be released as the investigation continues.
