Things 2 Do

New ride, changes to Great American Scream Machine coming to Six Flags, White Water

AUSTELL, Ga. — Six Flags opens for the 2022 season this weekend and visitors will notice some changes to one of the park’s most popular rides. There’s a new ride coming to Six Flags White Water this season, too.

“As we prepare for a new season of thrills, our parks are buzzing with excitement,” said Park President Dale Kaetzel. “We consistently look at ways to refine our offerings to elevate the guest experience, and we’re eager to welcome guests back to both parks this spring.”

In 2021, Six Flags Over Georgia resumed a multi-year refurbishment on the classic, wooden roller coaster, The Great American Scream Machine. Introduced to the park in 1973, The Great American Scream Machine is a designated American Coaster Enthusiasts’ national roller coaster landmark. It remains a nostalgic favorite among guests. Just in time for the park’s 55th anniversary, this restorative project includes a complete re-tracking and the replacement of much of the wooden ride structure. The park plans to unveil the updated classic roller coaster this spring.

Six Flags Over Georgia opens March 5.

Two months later, Six Flags White Water opens for the 2022 season. The water park will debut Python Plunge in 2022, a fast-paced, two-person water slide featuring multiple swirling discs and adrenaline-pumping drops. Reaching five stories tall and 500 feet long, Python Plunge snakes its way through the park’s landscape, and gives guests a thrilling journey down the hill to the splashdown below.

The park also announced several other events for the 2022 season.

Spring BreakOUT will bring live music to the park Apr. 1-10.

Six Flags will celebrate its 55th anniversary on June 14 with a birthday bash.

The park will celebrate Independence Day July 2-4 with fireworks and more.

Fright Fest returns with plenty of frights and scares Sept. 17- Oct. 31.

Holiday in the Park brings its holiday lights and treats to the park Nov. 19-Jan. 1.
