Tropical Depression Nicole: North Georgia school districts cancel classes Friday

ATLANTA — What’s left of Tropical Storm Nicole is making its way through north Georgia on Friday.

Severe Weather Team 2 has been tracking Nicole all week and how it could impact us in the area. The storm was downgraded to a tropical depression late Thursday.

Habersham, Banks, Rabun and White county schools have closed on Friday because of the weather.

A Wind Advisory is in effect now until 7 p.m. Friday. Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan says gusts up to 40 mph are possible. This could lead to scattered tree limbs down and scattered power outages.

Monahan says it’s possible some areas will see 1-3 inches of rain. The rainfall could be good for some areas with how dry Atlanta has been since the beginning of September.

The rain may throw a wrench into some Friday plans across metro Atlanta. Marietta canceled its annual Veterans Day Parade.

“Our first priority is the safety of our Veterans, parade participants, and community; therefore, the parade and ceremony cannot continue under these conditions. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the parade, there is no reschedule date.
