Flood Watch remains in effect for most of north Georgia

ATLANTA — It’s a wet start to the weekend as heavy rain continues to fall across north Georgia Friday morning. The good news is the rain will eventually taper off.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan says light to moderate showers will continue over the next several hours.

Severe Weather Team 2 is tracking widespread rain and when we’ll start to dry out, on Channel 2 Action News This Morning from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.

A Flood Watch will be in effect for most of metro Atlanta until 1 p.m. Friday. A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Meriwether, Troup and Upson counties until 7 a.m.

Here is what to know for Friday morning:

• Heaviest rain moving east of Atlanta
• Chance for an additional half inch to inch of rain through Friday morning.
• 1-2″+ rainfall on nearly saturated ground may lead to flooding on rivers, streams, and creeks

Some neighbors in southeast Atlanta are waking up to fallen trees and limbs this morning.

A Channel 2 Action News photographer spotted a tree down on someone’s car off Eisenhower Road. The car was completely covered and some of the tree fell across the yard and home.
