ATLANTA — The state of Georgia will have one representative in this year’s NCAA Men’s Tournament and we now know who and where they will play.

Sun Belt champion Georgia State Panthers earned a No. 16 seed during Sunday night’s selection show. They will take on No. 1 overall seed Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament’s West Regionals.

This is the third time in the past five years the Panthers have made it to the “Big Dance”. Their last two appearances did not last long as they were not able to get past the opening round.

In 2015, Georgia State was a so-called “Cinderella” team, making all the way to the Third Road before losing to Xavier.

The Panthers earned their way into the tournament on the heels of an 80-71 win in the Sun Belt Tournament finals vs. Louisiana on Mar. 7.

During the regular season they went 18-10 with a 9-5 record in conference play.
