Stimulus checks: What does ‘Payment Status #2 - Not Available’ mean?

You’re on the IRS’s Get My Payment website. You’ve entered all the information the government asks for. But the site returns a message that reads “Payment Status #2 - Not Available.” What does that mean?

CNBC reports that the statement is produced when a person doesn’t receive a second stimulus payment automatically.

The IRS is in the process of issuing a second stimulus payment, up to $600 per person.

While many have already gotten their payment, those receiving the “not available” message will have to wait until they file their taxes. It doesn’t matter if the first payment went through last year.

The IRS said that if there is an issue with the direct deposit payment, the agency will not be able to reissue and mail checks.

“The IRS advises people that if they don’t receive their Economic Impact Payment, they should file their 2020 tax return electronically and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their tax return to get their payment and any refund as quickly as possible,” the IRS said on its website.

Some taxpayers say that waiting will take too long.

WTVD reported that some of its viewers in Raleigh, North Carolina, have complained that the money is needed now and that waiting adds to financial hardships.
