Recall alert: Bob Evans Italian sausage may contain rubber pieces

WASHINGTON — Meat lovers, it’s time to check your fridge or freezer.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, Ohio-based Bob Evans Farms Foods Inc. issued a recall Friday for 7,560 pounds of raw pork sausage that may contain blue pieces of rubber.

The recalled 1-pound packages, labeled Bob Evans Italian Sausage and produced Sept. 8, have a time stamp of 14:43 to 15:25 and a use- or freeze-by date of Nov. 26, the agency said in a news release. The affected products – which include lot code XEN3663466 and establishment No. 6785 – were sent to retailers across the country, WTHR reported.

The FSIS learned of the problem when Bob Evans Farms notified the agency of “consumer complaints reporting thin blue pieces of rubber in the product,” according to the release. Officials have not received any reports of illnesses or injuries linked to the recalled items, the release said.

If you purchased the recalled sausage, do not eat it, officials said. Instead, throw the product away or return it to the store that sold it, the release said.
