New list names 50 best cities to live in America with cost of living in mind

With many companies and employees shifting to the new normal of working from home, many people are considering the possibility of being able to work from wherever, and that has prompted a common question: If you could live anywhere in America, where would you choose?

The latest edition of Money magazine names the top 50 cities in America dubbed the Best Places to Live 2020.

Topping the list is Evans, Georgia, described as “a fast-growing town with a welcoming atmosphere and southern charm.” The town, situated near the Georgia-South Carolina border, is a suburb of Augusta, where the Master’s Tournament takes place each year.

It’s also home to the U.S. Army’s Fort Gordon, which employs about 30,000 people, and the only public medical school in Georgia, the result being that one in every 90 residents is a doctor.

Great schools and affordable homes -- the median home price is $241,000 -- also earned points in the city’s ranking.

With a median household income of $101,000, Evans snagged the No. 1 spot because it has the lowest cost of living compared to all other considered U.S. cities with similar income levels.

In addition to public education and the conditions of each city’s economy and housing market, other factors considered to determine rankings were diversity, health and safety, weather and lifestyle.

Rounding out the top 10 best places to live are the following cities, listed by rank:

4) Rockwall, Texas

5) Columbia, Maryland

6) Westfield, Indiana

7) Syracuse, Utah

8) Franklin, Tennessee

9) Woodbury, Minnesota
