Bride killed, husband seriously hurt in crash leaving wedding reception

CHARLESTON, S.C. — A bride from Charlotte was killed and her husband was seriously hurt in a crash on their wedding night in the Charleston area, WCIV reports.

The couple was leaving their wedding reception in a golf car in Folly Beach on Friday night. That’s when a driver, who police say was under the influence, crashed into them.

The bride was killed moments after a photo shows her dancing down the reception line with sparklers, holding her new husband’s hand.

Their family said four people were in the vehicle when it was hit, causing it to roll over several times, WCIV reports.

The bride, Samantha Hutchinson, died at the scene. The three others on board all had critical injuries, including her husband, Aric, who has numerous broken bones and a brain injury.

Police said Jamie Komoroski was driving the car that hit them. She is charged with three counts of felony DUI and one count of reckless homicide. Investigators said Komoroski was driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone when she hit the motorized cart.

Aric’s mother, who said she was seriously hurt in the crash, has started a GoFundMe to help with burial and medical costs, WCIV reports.

“I was handed Aric’s wedding ring in a plastic bag at the hospital, five hours after Sam placed it on his finger and they read each other their vows,” his mother, Annette Hutchinson, wrote on Facebook. “Aric has lost the love of his life.”

A low-speed vehicle (LSV) is legal to drive at night in Folly Beach, but it is illegal to drive a golf cart at night, per local ordinances.
