Former major league pitcher Odalis Perez died after an accident at his home in the Dominican Republic. He was 44 years old.
Perez’s attorney confirmed the former ball player’s death to ESPN, saying he fell from a ladder. “Around 7 p.m., his brother Cristian Perez arrived at the house and found Odalis lying in the patio,” Walin Batista, Perez’s attorney, told ESPN. “We don’t know yet the cause of his death, but everything seems to indicate Odalis slipped down a ladder. This is a tragedy.”
Perez played for 10 seasons in the major leagues, pitching for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals and Washington Nationals, USA Today reported.
The Dodgers, for whom Perez played from 2002-2006, remembered their teammate in a post on Twitter. Perez made the All-Star team, representing the Dodgers, in 2002.

The MLB Players Alumni Association also remembered the pitcher on Twitter, saying, “He will forever remain in the hearts of our alumni family.”

Perez retired in 2008 with a 73-82 record with a 4.46 ERA in 1,335 innings, ESPN reported.
