VIDEO: Children’s hospital employee and young patient have “dance party”

ATLANTA — A video shared to WSB-TV is making all of us smile.

Lauren Sheffer recorded video of her son Blake at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Sheffer says her son, who was born prematurely, is no stranger to Children’s. He’s been in and out of Children’s many times, suffering from seizure-like episodes. She credits them with saving her child’s life -- twice.

One terrifying night, Sheffer found Blake limp in his bassinet, and he was rushed to Children’s Cardiac Acute Care Unit. Blake was diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT), a heart rhythm problem that causes him to have an abnormally fast heart rate. In addition to SVT, Blake was also diagnosed with a blood disorder among other things.

Blake continues to have complications and visits the hospital frequently, having been to Children’s over five times since October 2019. The staff at Children’s have become an extension of his family, the hospital told Channel 2.

And that’s obvious in the sweet video his mom shared. In the video, Blake is seen on video having a “dance party" with his Environmental Services Technician Quanda Riles.

“My favorite part of working for Children’s is making the patients feel happy and comfortable because you don’t know what a family is going through,” said Riles. “I always try to keep a smile on their faces.”

Sheffer says her son and Quanda have the dancing sessions almost every day.
