3 women accused of attacking Spirit employees at Fort Lauderdale airport

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Three women from Philadelphia are accused of attacking and injuring three Spirit Airlines employees Tuesday night at a South Florida airport, authorities said Wednesday.

The attack at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was captured on video, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Danaysha Akia Cuthbert Dixon, 22, Kaira Candida Ferguson, 21, and Tymaya Monique Wright, 20, “intentionally struck Spirit Airlines employees with phones, shoes, full water bottles, and metal signs,” WFOR reported, citing an arrest report. All three women are facing battery charges, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said the women were upset because their flight from South Florida to Philadelphia was delayed, WTVJ reported.

The women were taken to the Broward County Jail, where they were released on bail Wednesday morning according to WPLG.

Spirit Airlines, based in Miramar, Florida, issued a statement thanking its employees for “their professionalism and quick actions,” and calling the attack “completely unacceptable.”

“We also thank the Broward Sheriff’s Office for their assistance at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport yesterday,” the statement said. “Three guests became combative following a delayed flight, and they were arrested for physically assaulting our team members. Three of our team members sustained minor injuries. This violent behavior is completely unacceptable and has absolutely no place in airports or any other place of business. We will not tolerate abusive behavior of any kind.”
