Louisville Metro Police Department Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said in a news conference that the shooting happened around 9 p.m. Hundreds of people were enjoying the spring weather when shots were fired into the crowd, according to The New York Times.

Humphrey said at least six people were injured in the shooting, according to The Associated Press. As of late Saturday night, Humphrey said there were no witnesses.

Two people were killed at the scene and four others were taken to the hospital. According to WAVE, one person is in critical condition. The condition of the other three victims is unknown currently.

Police said the suspect fled the area following the shooting, WDRB reported.

Investigators are working to figure out a possible motive for the shooting, the Times said.

“I can’t make any sense of it. I can’t understand the rage and the anger of wanting to hurt someone, let alone kill someone and especially in a place that is supposed to be for families to come here for entertainment, in a place that is built for the community,” Metro Councilwoman Donna Purvis said, according to WDRB.

“This has been an unspeakable week of tragedy for our city,” Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said at the scene, according to the AP. “On Monday, we lost five of our fellow citizens to a horrific act of workplace gun violence. And now, five days later, we’re at another scene of a reckless act of gun violence.”

Greenberg was referring to the shooting last Monday at Old National Bank where a gunman opened fire on his co-workers, killing five people and injuring eight others.
