“The most excruciating that could ever happen,” Christina McClure, the mother of shooting victim Royel Rollack, said. “I could still hear the scream when I got the news.”

“This defendant decided to end a verbal argument, even a hand-to-hand physical argument, by using a weapon,” Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis said.

Rollack, 19, was a volunteer youth track coach and had recently gotten a slew of certifications from Job Corps in the public safety or emergency management arena and had applied for a corrections officer job with a metro Atlanta jail.

The woman recently convicted of Rollack’s murder Mo’nee Davenport was sentenced by Judge Rachel Krause to life in prison plus five years.

When Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne asked the victim’s mother how she gets through the day, McClure said, “Prayer, honestly. Some days, I just feel like I’m on autopilot.”

In College Park in September 2025, Davenport, in the gold shorts, was the aggressor in three encounters in quick succession with Rollack, in sky-blue shorts.

Each time Davenport produced a gun, says Tom Griner, Fulton County chief senior assistant district attorney.

“Most of our cases involve senseless reasons for murder. There’s no good reason for this killing to have occurred,” he said.

Griner says after a verbal argument by one motel, Davenport paced back and forth with a gun in her hand but put it back in her purse.

Then about 10 minutes later, she crossed the road to another hotel parking lot and challenged Rollack to a fight after which Davenport pulled a gun but a bystander restrained her. But she got the gun back and shot Rollack in the chest.

“The fist fight was over and done with before the shooting by about two minutes and about 30 or 40 yards away,” Griner said.

Griner says at trial Davenport claimed self-defense, which the jury rejected. And in an earlier hearing, she testified she was working as an escort here and had four kids in Ohio.

“Four other children lost their mother, and they won’t have their mother. And that’s an unfortunate thing. So I pray that God heals everybody that’s involved, that’s impacted by this, and that it will wake up other teens, other people to put the guns down,” McClure said.

“The mom and the victim, they were planning to take their first international trip. They were going to go to the Bahama,” Willis said.
