DeKalb woman heading to last chemo treatment gets touching neighborhood sendoff

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A woman reaching a milestone in her cancer battle received a touching surprise from her neighborhood.

Kedral “Keke” Thornton has been battling breast cancer and Tuesday marked her 16th and final chemotherapy treatment.

Before she headed to the doctor’s office, the Thornton family’s neighbors wanted to show their support for their friend Keke.

People lined the sidewalks in the Greenridge subdivision in Lithonia across the street from the Thornton home to cheer her on.

We came together as family, friends and community to celebrate our New Mercies sister, Kedral Sewell Thornton, who received her last round of treatment. We love you!!!

The neighbors wore masks and pink in support of Thornton and held decorated signs with encouraging messages.

“My wife’s chemo sendoff was a beautiful sight with all the bad stuff going on in the world,” James Thornton told Channel 2 Action News.

He says his wife will start six weeks of radiation treatments in 30 days.
