Woman accused of crossing several lanes, killing father changing tire along GA 400

A family is speaking publicly for the first time about the loss of a 22-year-old father, killed along GA 400 in Sandy Springs.

Sandy Springs Police say Deandre Logan was hit in December. Logan was the passenger in a car on the shoulder of the highway after the vehicle blew a tire.

Police say 35-year-old Ashley Perry crossed three lanes of traffic, slamming into the stopped car near the Mount Vernon overpass.

“My heart is just shattered into pieces. It’s a pain that I wouldn’t want no mother to feel,” said Katina Mitchell, Logan’s mother.

Logan’s family is still struggling with the loss.

“It’s hard to focus, I can’t drive past the crash site. Just seeing where it was, it just breaks me down,” said Mitchell.

Perry faces several charges, including felony vehicular homicide.

She told police she remembered reaching for a water bottle, and that’s what made her drift.

The victim’s family is upset over the $14,000 bond set for Perry.

“When I saw the bond as low as it was, I lost hope. I feel my sons life is worth more than the bond that person was given. It was a blow to the chest,” said Mitchell.

Channel 2 Action News reached out to Perry’s attorney for a response. He has not yet returned our call.
