ATLANTA, Ga. — A former East Point police officer is back on trial in Fulton County, accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl and another woman.

Richard Gooddine is facing a second trial after his first trial in 2022 ended in a partial mistrial.
Opening statements were presented Wednesday in downtown Atlanta, followed by more than three hours of testimony from the first alleged victim.
The judge barred cameras during the most graphic portions of the teenager’s testimony.
According to prosecutors, the girl was 15 years old when Gooddine, who was working as a police officer at the time, allegedly raped her inside his patrol car.

Her sister also testified Wednesday, describing the first time she says she encountered Gooddine.
She said he groped her younger sister during a search that she believed should never have taken place.
The sister later described seeing Gooddine again after the alleged rape, when her younger sister told her what she said had happened.
“I was shocked, but I remember hugging her and I told her, I know I said I wouldn’t tell anybody, but we gotta tell somebody. Let’s call Mama,” she testified.
Gooddine’s first trial in 2022 ended without a complete verdict, leading to the retrial now underway.
The second alleged victim is expected to take the stand Thursday as testimony continues.
