ATLANTA — A local family that is used to gathering to play and sing music together is taking its talents and tradition online amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Friedmans are a self-proclaimed musical family, and, like families around the world, they are trying to find ways to keep some normalcy in these uncertain times.

Ross and Theresa Friedman, of Sandy Springs, used to have a bluegrass band that would play at farmers markets and senior living centers around Atlanta, as well as at other private events.
“They’re self-isolating but they just decided that they were going to shoot a video and share it,” Tammy Friedman said of her mother and father-in-law. “I married into a musical family. Everyone plays an instrument.”
Every morning, her mother-and-law and father-in-law have been recording them play and sing a song and then posting it on Facebook.
“In person, we usually do what we call a ‘fam jam’, where we sing along all together,” Friedman said.
She said her sister-in-law had the idea to do a fam jam virtually, in which everyone would sing or play an instrument and put it all together.
Tammy Friedman says her son Miles, 21 months old, had other plans.
“He started picking up the harmonica and playing it,” she said.
She recorded a video of it and it became the perfect addition to one of his grandparents’ songs.
“It fit so well with the song that my sister-in-law put it together and put on Facebook,” she said. “Everyone just thinks It’s amazing and says it brightens up their day, and it shines a little light into this dark time.”
Miles’ cousin, Noah, appears with a triangle at the end of the song.
People have been them for lifting their spirits. Tammy Friedman said she sent the video to the boys’ babysitter, who thanked her for making her smile.
“Right now, it’s the smiles that really matter,” Friedman said.
Friedman said her nephew Noah will be turning 2 at the end of this month, and they will probably have a ‘fam jam’ to celebrate.
It’s been quite a while since our last fam jam. So, we are glad to have some of the family helping out on today’s song, “The Great Divide” by Kate Wolf. Thank you to Steph for great tech work!💜
