DALTON, Ga. — President Donald Trump asked Georgians to pretend he is on the ballot as he rallied for Republican candidates in Dalton Friday.

Channel 2’s Richard Elliot reports that’s exactly what Democrats want voters to do.

Trump was really here to try and rally his base to go out and vote.

With all the military pomp and circumstance of a Marine One flyover, Trump walked into a small hangar at Dalton Municipal Airport with two goals: to campaign for GOP candidates Rick Jackson and Mike Collins and rally his MAGA base to go to the polls.

“So this is really, I think, the most important midterm election maybe we’ve ever had because there’s never been anything like what we’ve done,” Trump said.

But Republican insiders are worried that because Trump isn’t on the ballot, some Republicans — enough to make a difference — may stay home for this midterm election.

Polls already show Democratic incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff with a sizable lead over Republican congressman Mike Collins.

And the latest polls show Democrat for governor Keisha Lance Bottoms close enough to Republican Rick Jackson to make some Republicans nervous.

That’s why trump told the crowd, “In this election, I’m asking you to be, you have to pretend I’m on the ballot, OK?”

But that’s exactly what Democrats, including Bottoms, wants voters to do too.

They think Trump, his economy and war with Iran are so unpopular that she wants to tie him to her opponent Jackson, who attended the Dalton rally.

“This is a grown man who repeatedly says he wants to be another man. He wants to be Trump’s favorite governor. Now he wants to be Brian Kemp. I want to know who Rick Jackson wants to be,” Bottoms said.

Trump will make another visit to Georgia next Saturday in Macon to campaign.
