Teen killed in police shooting tied to deadly home invasion involving 2 other teens

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News is digging deeper into a police shooting that killed a teenager in Cobb County.

Channel 2′s Cobb County Bureau Chief Chris Jose learned that officers were initially preparing to serve a warrant Thursday to search the home and car belonging to a murder suspect identified as 19-year-old Samuel David Mallard.

The GBI said officers found Mallard driving his car in the 1400 block of Chaseway Circle when he tried “to elude officers in his vehicle, but his car was stopped by CCPD vehicles.”

During the encounter, officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect. Mallard was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said before Mallard’s death, he along with Damion Shropshire and Elijah Bailey, both 16, were involved in a serious crime.

Jose learned that Shropshire recently got out of jail after a Cobb County judge gave a $25,000 bond last month. Since his release, Shropshire has been accused of armed robbery and a deadly home invasion.

According to arrest warrants, Shropshire and Bailey are accused of shooting and killing Daquan Murphy Tuesday morning inside an apartment on Anderson Mill Road after trying to rob him.

Jose confirmed through court records that Mallard is also tied to the deadly home invasion.

Jose knocked on the door of Mallard’s grandmother’s home Friday. She would only tell him: “I don’t have much to say. My grandson is dead.”

In November, Shropshire also allegedly had a gun and robbed a 14-year old in broad daylight.
