JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. — A Jackson County high school student was arrested on Sunday evening after a school threat was reported at one of the district’s high schools.
According to the Jackson County High School principal, the student made threats against the school and those threats were reported to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office as well as school administration.
The school administration and sheriff’s office secured the campus’ safety and the student was charged.

In a statement from the principal sent to parents, officials said the threat was taken seriously, as all threats are, even when they might be just a joke.
“Please know that the Jackson County School System takes all threats to school safety, whether verbal or written, with the utmost seriousness,” Principal Lev Hartnup said in a statement. “Statements made as a joke or without the intent to cause harm are still considered serious when they threatened the safety of our schools. Such statements will not be tolerated and will be addressed appropriately by JCHS administration and law enforcement.”
Hartnup added that keeping the school environment safe was a shared responsibility and thanked the community and their partners for their support.
In a statement from the sheriff’s office, a spokesperson confirmed the teen faces a felony charge, but was unable to share additional information.
