“She was lying right here,” Samantha Nations said.
It was at the end of her driveway.
“Her wounds were really deep. Just blood everywhere,” Nations said.
Around 8:30 Wednesday morning, 14-year-old Alexis Johnson and her 12-year-old brother were waiting for the school bus along Anglin Road in Griffin. That’s where Spalding County Animal Control says a Rottweiler attacked the girl and knocked her to the ground.
Nations says she did her best to comfort the teen until paramedics arrived. She was rushed by Wellstar AirCare to Arthur M. Blank Hospital in Brookhaven.
Her mother, Jessica, told Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen her daughter was going into surgery and would be hospitalized for at least a few days.

Animal Control officers captured the dog a short time later, and it is being kept at the county’s shelter. Neighbors say the dog’s owner lives nearby and that it followed the kids to the bus stop.
They don’t know why the dog attacked the girl.
Nations says the girl’s brother, who was slightly hurt, and the bus driver bravely fought the dog off.
“He got bit himself. But it was more the bus driver,” Nations said.
“Sounds like he’s a hero?” Petersen asked.
“He is. A wonderful man,” Nations said.
Spalding County Animal Control has not said whether it will pursue charges regarding the dog’s owner or what will happen to the dog itself.
