Residents say for at least six months, illegal dumpsters have been using the dead end of Oakley Road to dump items like furniture, trash, yard waste and debris from construction sites directly at the entrance of their Oakley Station subdivision.

“Sitting on the front step, it’s an eyesore,” said Nefertiti.

Residents tell Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln they’ve made multiple complaints to the city of South Fulton and Union City. However, they say they can’t understand why neither city has made any attempts to clean it up.

“There should be some type of effort in cleaning it up,” said Nefertiti.

The neighborhood sits near the border of South Fulton and Union City. Channel 2 sent emails to both Union City and the city of South Fulton.

Both cities have ordinances in place prohibiting illegal dumping.

Residents say they hope that speaking out will garner that same attention to their neighborhood.

“I feel like both cities have the option to talk and come together, and see exactly what can be done,” said Nefertiti.

The City of Union City sent the following statement to Channel 2:

The City of Union City is committed to preserving the environment and protecting its residents from any dangers that may arise from illegal dumping. The City’s Department of Public Services and Code Enforcement has been working hard to fight unlawful dumping through cleanups and investigations into cases.

“After further review, the area mentioned does not fall within City limits. While the Oakley Station subdivision has a Union City zip code, the community is zoned within the City of South Fulton.
