Police arrest driver accused of killing construction worker on I-75 in hit-and-run

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Police say they have arrested the driver who hit and killed a construction worker on Interstate 75 and just drove off.

Daniel Broder, 20, was arrested Monday night at his home in Canton.

Marietta police say 30-year-old Martin Rivera, of Chicago, was placing sign on the shoulder of I-75 N just north of the Delk Road interchange on Sept. 12 when he was hit by a black Volkswagen Golf GTI. That impact knocked Rivera into the path of a second vehicle.

Broder did not stop to help and drove away, police say. The driver of the second vehicle stopped and is cooperating with authorities.

Investigators said they received an anonymous tip which they said led them to Broder.

Broder was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center and charged with felony hit and run and felony homicide by vehicle first degree.

The Marietta Police Department thanked the community that helped spread the word about the suspect vehicle. The anonymous tip brought the suspect into custody and will help give the Rivera family closure in this tragic event.
