Delta employee killed in shooting at parking lot near airport

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police are looking for a killer who shot a Delta employee multiple times in the airline’s employee parking lot.

Investigators told Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes that the public has no reason to worry about a killer on the loose.

However, Delta workers said they are now concerned about their safety.

“It’s kind of hard to stop things like that from happening but the No. 1 defense is just watching your back,” said one customer at a Racetrac gas station along Camp Creek Parkway – right next to the Delta employee parking lot.

Investigators said someone killed Delta employee Alexis Reed around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the employee lot.

Police said the killer shot Reed three times and now co-workers are wondering who did it and how they got access to the secure lot.

None of the workers Fernandes spoke with Monday wanted to comment on camera in fear that they might lose their jobs.

They told her off camera they’re concerned that police have no suspects and now they’re wondering if another Delta employee is somehow involved.

On Monday, Fernandes saw a heavy security presence at the entrance to the lot and some workers said they hope it stays that way for a while.

“I think that people really should watch their back as much as they can,” the gas station customer said.

Delta confirmed the employee’s death in statement to Channel 2 Action News and AJC.com.

"The Delta family is grieving the loss of one of our own this morning. Late last night, an Atlanta colleague passed away after a shooting at the Camp Creek employee parking lot. We share our deepest condolences with both family and friends. Delta is currently conducting an investigation, in partnership with law enforcement.”

Friends of Reed said she was a ramp agent and will be missed at the Atlanta airport.

Police said they can’t talk about where they are in their investigation because they don’t want any leaked information to hurt the case.
