BRASELTON, Ga. - A boil water advisory is in effect until further notice for Town of Braselton water customers after a pump failure at Bear Creek Reservoir.
Town officials said they issued the advisory as a precaution because of the potential for microbial contamination. The water system draws from multiple sources, including the Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority.
The authority issued a boil water advisory after the pump failures and shut off the supply immediately, so customers were not immediately affected. The advisory was issued when the authority reconnected the water supply.

Officials said customers should use bottled water or boil tap water before drinking it, brushing teeth, washing food, preparing food and baby formula, making ice or giving water to pets.
To properly boil water, heat it until bubbles rise quickly from the bottom of the container, continue heating for 1 minute after it begins to boil, then let it cool before use.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says laundry, dishwashing and bathing can still be done during a boil water advisory if done properly.
“We will work quickly but thoroughly to ensure that the water is safe to drink,” Public Works Director Sandy Weinel said.
Officials said an update will be posted as soon as the advisory is lifted.
