SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — If you’ve ever wondered why fire departments carry long rope systems on fire trucks, the rescue unit from Sandy Springs Fire Department has the perfect answer.
On Wednesday night, the unit was called out to a parking lot on Glenridge Place when a car went over the curb and a metal fence, and fell some 40 feet into a ravine.

Photos show rescue personnel in the ravine working to rescue the 58-year old driver, who had accidentally driven forward instead of reversing out of her parking space in the wet parking lot.

Crews deployed their rope system in order to rappel down to the car and get the driver out of her car.

The good news is, firefighters said the driver was transported to the hospital just to be checked out but they said otherwise had no obvious injuries.
