Victim in wrong-way crash on GA 400 identified as 24-year-old woman

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Two people are dead after a driver drove the wrong way on Georgia 400 and crashed into another car near Roberts Drive, police said.

Police said they got a call sometime after 6 a.m. reporting a car that was heading north from Sandy Springs towards Roswell in the southbound lanes.

Roswell police said that officers heading south from the Holcomb Bridge Road exit found a head on collision just south of the Chattahoochee River on the busy Fulton County highway. The officers said both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Zoe Robinson.

The driver who police say caused the crash was identified as Lider Damis, 34, of Clarkston.

“We know through people that were calling in he was going pretty fast,” said Sal Ortega from the Sandy Springs Police Department.

Police said they believe Damis got on to Ga. 400 going the wrong way at Abernathy Road. He made it about six miles before hitting Robinson, according to the police report.

“I’m pretty sure our investigators saw him on the cameras entering. And that was corroborated by the many calls that we got from people,” Ortega said.

Besides witnesses and video, investigators said they also will use data collected from the car and cell phone records to find out where Damis was early that morning and what may have led him to go the wrong way.

Police said Robinson was simply driving home to Sandy Springs.

“We are currently working with the medical examiner’s office to go through toxicology reports. Our investigators are working to put together a timeline where the driver was coming from, where he was headed to,” Ortega said.

This interchange is under construction with changing traffic patterns but the ramp from the southbound lanes is clearly marked with do not enter signs.

Ga. 400 was shut down for over four hours Sunday morning while police tried to piece together what happened and clean up the crash scene. The road reopened just after 10 a.m.

Sandy Springs police took over the investigation as the car that caused the crash came from their jurisdiction. Traffic Unit Investigators are asking anyone who many have witnessed the crash to contact Sandy Springs police.
