SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — People in or traveling through Sandy Springs should be aware that a gas leak has caused a temporary road closure of a major thoroughfare.

Please leave immediately if you are asked to evacuate, Sandy Springs police said.

Sandy Springs police say a gas main was reportedly hit near Johnson Ferry Road and Sandy Springs Circle.
Johnson Ferry Road is closed from Sandy Springs Circle to Bonnie Lane/Wright Road.
Images from NewsChopper 2 showed gas continuing to shoot into the air.

Those nearby should avoid the affected area. Do not drive through the closure, police say.
Police also ask the public to allow first responders room to work, and monitor official channels for updates.
